January 2013
Greetings, all!
I am pleased to report that my work as the Interim Superintendent of Flint Community Schools is well underway. Although my first official day was January 3, I really began work the day after the Flint Board of Education appointed me to this position in mid-December. Since then I have been extremely busy visiting schools and meeting with numerous individuals or organizations to begin charting a new course for our district.
There is much to do. Obviously, the district’s budget deficit, academic performance, enrollment and school safety are top priorities. Improving parental involvement and customer service also rank very high on this list. However, I’m confident that, with the help of our dedicated staff and engaged community, we will make significant progress in these critical areas, as well as others.

Recognizing that a quality education is not merely a destination but a journey, I have challenged all staff to use their talents wisely, be positive and settle for nothing less than our very best effort. Making responsible decisions, with our students’ best interest at heart, will lay and build upon the foundation of excellence we want to establish in Flint Community Schools.
In closing, it is an honor to serve as your Interim Superintendent. I welcome your thoughts and ideas as we work together to move our district forward in service to our students, families and the community at-large.
Thank you.
